What can I say about Linux? I’ve been running Linux at home since kernel 0.99p13. Years ago I dreamed of having a Unix system I could afford to play with at home as I was convinced that it would allow me to do the quick and dirty things that were all I had time to do at home. Now Linux has >ten million users and is running a good part of the net.
I use it at home as my “Everything†server. Email, faxes, voice reminders, IP Masquerading so I can get both myself and my wife surfing the netsurfing the net simultaneously, X-Windows, Home Intranet Server, Fileserver etc. It handles all of these with ease. The nicest part about this is that this server is “headlessâ€. By this I mean it doesn’t even have a graphics card, let alone a monitor and keyboard. Everything can be done using the network and since the Webmin package was released, virtually everything can be administered via a web browser anywhere on my network!.
One of my favourite sayings is that I reboot my Windows PC (at work, obviously) at least once a day. I reboot my Linux PC when I move house!
